Jewish Community Farming
Our Jewish Roots
Our Jewish Roots
As a Jewish-based farm and education centre, our guiding principle is cultivating healthy communities through ancient Jewish wisdom and practices. Using food as a way to teach and inspire Jewish values, tradition, and practices, Stable Harvest Farm is looking to make the world a more sustainable place. It’s through using agricultural practices that have been around for centuries that we’re able to grow produce in a more economical way, sharing that knowledge and reward with our neighbours.
We’re a Jewish farm that welcomes everyone, inspired by the ancient traditions that unite communities and bring people together to celebrate the land and its fruitfulness.
- Bal Taschit: Principle about ethical consumption
- Shmita: Honoring natural cycles of the earth
- Peah: Lining the corners of one’s field with food for the poor
- Kayamut: Ecological sustainability
- Ma’aser: Reserving at least one-tenth of one’s agricultural produce for the poor
- K’vod Briut: The dignity of all creations
- Hachnasat Orchim: Welcoming guests
- Haganat Ovdim: The fair treatment of farm workers
- Tsa’ar Ba’alei Chaim: The kind and humane treatment of animals
- Tikkun Olam: Healing the world
Central to the Jewish way of life is the cycle of time. Our farm is guided by the Earth’s four seasons, which dictate the the holidays and celebrations within the Jewish calendar. The core of these celebrations are often seasonal foods, something we at Stable Harvest Farm strive to make accessible for all.
It’s through ancient Jewish traditions that our vision and mission are guided. We grow food to care for our community, connecting with people on a deeper and more meaningful level. No matter your background, we invite you to be part of a community for change.
