Learning Through Bees
Our bees help pollinate fruits, vegetables, and flowers across the farm. Without them, our gardens and harvests wouldn’t thrive the same way. They also give us delicious honey and a chance to share the wonder of pollination with our community. From Summer Bee Camp for kids to beekeeper school visits and hands-on workshops, we’ve seen how bees spark curiosity at every age. These free programs give people the chance to ask questions, explore the hive, and discover how pollinators connect food, farming, and community.
About Our Apiary
We’ve built a colorful apiary where our bees have a safe home close to the gardens and chicken coop. The hives not only produce honey but also support pollination across the farm. It’s also a living classroom, where visitors can see how bees work together and why they’re so vital to our food system.
Unbeelievable Facts
- Bees communicate by doing a “waggle dance” to tell others where food is.
- Canada is home to 855 species of native bees. BC is home to around 600 different native bee species and has the greatest diversity of native bees in all of Canada
- Honeybees can fly at a speed of 24km/hour.
- Bees pollinate about one-third of the food we eat, from apples and berries to pumpkins and clover.
- The queen bee can live up to 5 years and may lay 2,000+ eggs a day in peak season.
